Innovative Technology for Improving Student Learning Academy

Purpose:
To assist school and district leaders to create and implement a vision for how technology can be used to increase effectiveness, improve efficiency, and increase student performance in a rapidly changing world.

Format:
Practitioners, who are using technology innovatively, will share their experience, approach, and knowledge during three-hour interactive sessions held Friday evenings and Saturday mornings and afternoons. Each of the following topics will be scheduled at each academy location, although speakers may be different at each location. Dinner will be provided during the Friday session, as will breakfast and lunch on Saturdays. (Note change in timing for June session.)

Participants will:

  • Participate in each session
  • Engage in a "back channel" discussion (over the internet) about what the presentations inspire them to think and do
  • Design an innovative project at their own work location, which will be shared during the last session
  • Be encouraged to participate in the Lead 3.0 Symposium (April 14-16, Hyatt Regency Irvine) and be provided a $50 discount for this event

Session Topics:

  1. One-to-One Computing: Learn from one district’s experience as they implement a program where every student has a computer.
  2. Exploring the Possibilities of Online Learning—As your students learn beyond the traditional classroom will we catch up to them?
  3. The Interactive Classroom—Learn what a great teacher can do when a district “gets it.”
  4. iPad/iTouch—Moving English learners forward with the help of these amazing tools.
  5. E-Literacy—A refined look at Web 2.0 tools.
  6. Making and Using Video to Enhance Learning—As if we didn’t already know it YouTube has demonstrated the power of video; take advantage of the video that students and you can create.
  7. Communicating with Technology—Tweets, podcasts, social media; they can be there for you.
