Teacher Discipline vs. Evaluation

Teacher Discipline vs. Evaluation: Do You Know the Difference?
Create and Deliver Evaluation Tools to Improve Education

Presentation by Rob A. Piacente and Chris Williams on December 14, 2010

Evaluations should be conducted to strengthen your staff and the organization. From daily walk-throughs to formal assessment, evaluations should be focused on an education professional's contributions to student achievement. Discipline, however, should be immediate and specific. Waiting to address an employee's inappropriate behavior until you are offering the formal evaluation is too late. Progressive discipline is about timing, honesty and detailed records, including conference summaries, written directives and formal disciplinary documents.
