Closing the Achievement Gap

How many times as administrators have we heard the phrase ‘Closing the Achievement Gap’? How many times have we been told that ‘we’ need to close that gap? What does it really mean to ‘close the achievement gap’? And, who is actually being targeted when we say we are ‘closing the achievement gap? This workshop attempts to help individuals understand the ‘achievement gap’ and that it involves curriculum, understanding culture, cultural learning styles and learning styles in general. Moreover, this workshop is designed to assist participants in not only understanding those areas, but understanding them to the point that increased knowledge on our part as administrators of these areas will increase knowledge, and foster academic achievement on the part of students. Participants will look at schools where the gap is being significantly closed both here in California and across the country, and also reviewing the formula for those places that is leading to success.
