What Works: A Collaborative Culture Focused on Learning

This session is applicable for teacher leaders, new and veteran site leaders, and could be of value for school/grade level/department teams.  We examine some of the mechanical/operational structures of PLC, but focus mainly on the development of the "people part" of growing truly open, collaborative, learning-focused groups---where so many PLC efforts have stumbled...and stalled.

Desired Outcomes:

  • Examine the essential elements of PLC, comparing and contrasting the research of Hord, DuFour, Garmston/Wellman, McREL, and NAESP
  • Define, examine, reflect, and prepare plans for:
    • A real commitment to results
    • Sincere belief that all students--and teachers--can be successful
    • Open and honest cultures or professional collaboration
    • Focus on collective, on-going inquiry
    • Shared leadership
